Wakefield One, Wakefield Council’s flagship headquarters has won the RIBA Yorkshire Sustainability award.

Open to the public in 2012, Wakefield One provides the council with a single modern, sustainable office development, providing a welcoming, productive environment that is flexible to cope with future needs.

BuroHappold’s team, with Cartwright Pickard Architects, delivered a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rated building, which, through its environmental strategy uses the building layout and fabric to help create a productive working environment and uses intelligent, low energy systems to heat, cool and light the building, concentrating on using renewable energy sources.

BuroHappold has designed and delivered six key aspects of the new building: Building services engineering, structural engineering, ground engineering, civil engineering, fire engineering strategy and computational simulation.
