Chris Sparrow to support practice’s strategic push into Asia Pacific market

Global multidisciplinary engineering consultancy Buro Happold has appointed Chris Sparrow as Group Director and Regional Discipline Leader (Structures) to its Hong Kong office.
Chris, who joins Buro Happold from Meinhardt, is a renowned structural engineer with over 35 years of experience.

Based in Hong Kong for over 20 years, Chris has worked on a range of large scale and innovative buildings including the 1.3 kilometre long terminal building at Hong Kong International Airport, the Hong Kong Government’s headquarters at Tamar, new railway stations for the Hong Kong Mass Transit Railway Corporation and the 55-storey ‘Melbourne Central’ tower (Australia).

Matthew Smith, Buro Happold’s Hong Kong Office Director, said: “Chris will further strengthen the skills, expertise and experience of our local team. He will play a leading role in growing our business in the region beyond our early successes, which include an appointment on the West Kowloon Terminus of the proposed Express Rail Link (XRL) with mainland China.”

In June the practice opened its Hong Kong office to extend its global reach, spearhead its new strategic push into the Asia Pacific region and enhance its holistic and multidisciplinary service to international clients.

Chris is a Fellow of The Hong Kong Institute of Engineers and The Institution of Engineers (Australia), Vice President of The Institution of Engineers (Australia) (Hong Kong Chapter), a Member of The Institution of Civil Engineers, a Registered Structural Engineer (Hong Kong) and Registered Professional Engineer (Civil) (Hong Kong).
