Partners HealthCare’s new state-of-the-art Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Charlestown’s Navy Shipyard was recently awarded a citation in Sustainable Design from the Boston Society of Architects third annual BSA Design Awards. The nine-storey, 262,000 square feet building, designed by Perkins + Will, opened in 2013 and includes patient rooms, acute care and in-patient care.

With patient safety being first and foremost at Spaulding, BuroHappold completed environmental performance and dynamic thermal modeling to ensure the hospital could continue to operate in the event of a disaster. As a model of resiliency, Spaulding is consistently ranked as one of the country’s top 10 rehabilitation hospitals, and is LEED for New Construction Gold certified.
