Britain’s biggest ever public library, located in the heart of Birmingham city centre has impressed judges from RIBA West Midlands winning four award categories; Building of the Year,  Emerging Architect of the year for Mecanoo, Client of the year for Birmingham City Council  and Regional winner.

Opened to the public in 2013 the aim was to set new standards for libraries in the 21st Century by creating an outstanding resource for learning, information and culture.

BuroHappold has been a key member of the design team, that created this state of the art new facility. Working with architects Mecanoo, BuroHappold has designed and delivered ten key aspects of the new building: structural engineering, façade solutions, energy and environment engineering, building services engineering, environmental simulations, lighting systems, fire engineering, inclusive design, acoustics and sustainability and BREEAM.

Congratulations to all involved in this magnificent scheme!
