Buro Happold together with InnoZ Berlin presented at the International Symposium on Electric Vehicles hosted by The Warsaw University on 9th and 10th July 2012.  The symposium was an important meeting of many international clusters active in the field of integrated electric mobility from Asia and Europe.

Paul Rogers, Partner of Buro Happold, presented the background to the practices involvement in the Be-Mobility 2.0 research programme in Berlin and the challenges and opportunities around integration of infrastructure into cities to support the implementation of green mobility within urban infrastructure systems. This included some worked examples of projects in Munich and Hamburg where building and city infrastructure is now being aligned to facilitate electric mobility use.

Christian Scherf of the InnoZ in Berlin presented background to the platforms activities including the integrated monthly travel card that not only offers customers in Berlin free use of public bus and train systems, but also access to a flotilla of electric cars and bikes located around the city all bookable using smart phone technology.

Paul Rogers, speaking on the success of the symposium,”this was an excellent opportunity to meet experts in the fields of green urban mobility from around Europe and Asia. Technology is leading this field but the challenge remains on how to integrate appropriate and affordable infrastructure into the city environment with minimum impact and cost.”

The next International Symposium on Electric Vehicles will be hosted by Beijing in 2013.
