We are delighted to announce that structural engineer, Conall Doherty, has been shortlisted for the Leader of Tomorrow award at the British Construction Industry Awards 2013.

With the winners announced on the 9 October 2013, the Leader of Tomorrow award is aimed at recognising young professionals as they emerge into the built environment professions across design and construction disciplines.

When asked about the nomination, Conall said “To be shortlisted for this award is testament to the fantastic opportunities BuroHappold offer in our overseas offices. International experience in Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar has really helped me develop my engineering skillset, particularly with regards to leadership, and I would urge others to take on similar challenges. It is encouraging to see ACE’s commitment to promoting the development of leadership skills throughout the industry.”

Previous to this achievement, Conall had been chosen as one of only six ICE President’s Apprentices in this year’s ICE apprentice competition.

He added “As ICE President’s Apprentice this year, I have had the opportunity to explore the ethical challenges facing this generation of engineers and it has been fascinating to combine this with my experience of working internationally. We are currently creating an ICE ethics website which will include a toolkit for tackling ethical challenges and a case study based value exchange forum. In addition to this an Institution wide ethics survey has just gone live this week, you can find it here

Watch out for the launch of the ethics campaign in July’s edition of the New Civil Engineer magazine.
