Buro Happold to host sustainable design workshop at the World Architectural Congress, alongside Cityscape Global in Dubai

Consultancy to look at tricky issue of enabling sustainable design in the region
International multidisciplinary engineering consultancy Buro Happold is to host a half-day workshop on sustainable design as part of the World Architectural Congress in Dubai on 29 September.
The workshop will take the form of an interactive debate with stimulating presentations from industry experts in sustainable design to discuss the topic of ‘How are integrated design techniques being used to deliver more sustainable projects?’. Rob Cooke, Buro Happold’s Middle East sustainability team leader, will lead the workshop and offer an insight into practical perspectives on the application of sustainable design approaches in the Middle East and what impact the likes of the Estidama Pearl Rating System has had so far.
Key objectives of the workshop are to develop and gain:
- A thorough understanding of the key principles of sustainable design practice in the Middle East
- Practical insights into how integrated design approaches and tools have been applied in the region and the major factors of success and failure
- Recognise how urban design concepts can provide multiple sustainability benefits and where potential conflicts lie
- Share experience and concerns with peers to obtain feedback and increase understanding of the industry
It is planned that the findings of the workshop will be used to create a short publication of best practice and thinking that addresses the key issues relating to encouraging integrated design in the interests of more sustainable outcomes.
