Buro Happold joins the Polish Partnership for Sustainable Construction

The Partnership for Sustainable Construction aims to raise awareness of sustainable construction and horizontal cooperation between all players in the sustainable building life cycle.
As part of the project, a coalition of leading companies involved in various phases of delivering sustainable building was formed (from investors and architects, to developers, project engineers, building materials manufacturers, general contractors, financial institutions and lawyers). The companies taking part in this project include investors/developers, architects, consultants, construction materials and solution providers, property and asset managers, as well as financing institutions and legal advisors. The project was initiated and sponsored by the Polish based contractor RD bud.
The outcome of the coalition and its meetings was the realisation of the five most important hurdles that hamper the development of sustainable construction in Poland. These topics formed the subject of the seminars attended by the representatives of industries involved at various phases of the sustainable building life cycle.
During the past year the Partnership for Sustainable Construction has held the following seminars:
- Ignorance about sustainability – the need to raise public awareness about sustainable development
- Sustainable city planning
- Sustainable design – the need for integration and innovative solutions
- Sustainable law – the current legal regulations in the phase of future changes imposed by EU law
- Financing sustainable construction projects
Each of the seminars included opinion leaders, city officials and experts as well as a number of speakers from Buro Happold; Ian Booth, Director; Jochen Rabe, Associate and Marek Dąbrowski, Associate. They were also attended by other sustainable business representatives who took part in the panels and discussions organised during the seminars.
Buro Happold’s Warsaw team also organised and hosted a workshop on sustainable design during the June seminar entitled Sustainable design – the need for integration and innovative solutions.
By taking part in the initiative, Buro Happold focused on the integration of building, infrastructure and the city, and also emphasised the need for cooperation between business players and local governments at a planning stage. Buro Happold understands sustainable construction from a broader perspective than just environmental certification of buildings, an approach which differentiates the consultancy from its main competitors in the Polish construction market.
The seminars were organised in cooperation with Pilkington Polska, Grupa TUP, Luxiona Group, HP, Cushman & Wakefield, PwC, The Society of Polish Town Planners and the City of Warsaw, among others. The full scope of the project is coordinated by Bluevine Consulting.
