BCI award successes for Buro Happold

International engineering consultant triumphs at industry awards
International multidisciplinary engineering consultancy Buro Happold scooped three wins and a highly commended at last night’s 24th annual BCI awards, held in London’s Grosvenor House.
The Royal Shakespeare and Swan Theatres project was announced as the winner of the Major Building Project award (for projects over £50m), yet another in the long line of awards the theatre has picked up since its completion last autumn.
The judges said “There were no compromises in the tough decisions that were made to achieve the end result, which is a brilliant synergy between old and new.” Buro Happold’s Stephen Jolly, the project principal echoed this, adding “As engineers, we like a challenge.
Our passion is problem solving, the more difficult the better, and they don’t come much more challenging than the Royal Shakespeare Theatre Transformation Project.”
In addition, the London 2012 Olympic Stadium was highly commended in the Major Building Project category; Buro Happold was part of Team Stadium, the integrated design and construction team that delivered the London 2012 Olympic Games’ centre piece earlier this year.
The consultancy was also recognised for its significant contribution to delivering work outside the UK on the world class Aviva Stadium in Dublin. The 51,700 seat stadium has created a new landmark and a state of the art sporting facility for the city. The judges commented that “It was on time and on budget but in addition they (the judges) were very impressed by the build quality and successful team building involving all parties from client to sub-contractor.” The stadium has also picked up a number of awards since it opened last year.
Buro Happold also provided building engineering for the Theatre Royal Bath which won the BCI’s Conservation Award category, and structures, services and sustainability from concept through to tender for Anne Mews which won the Regeneration Award category.
