Waste management consulting

Waste, operations, logistics and flows

As waste management and logistics consultants, we integrate circular economy principles within our designs to close the loop and achieve zero waste and logistics requirements.

As chartered waste and environmental consultants, we work with our clients to develop solutions for waste management and goods flows. We strive to realise the value and opportunities to prevent, reuse, recycle materials and reduce waste. This allows us to minimise the amount of embodied carbon within the project and develop a circular economy approach to design, demolition and disassembly.

We develop bespoke solutions considering the latest innovations, technologies whilst adhering to the latest international best practice and waste regulations.

Our waste management consultants remain informed on the latest waste and logistics infrastructure requirements and materials flow. This ensures the delivery of sustainable solutions that balance the needs of the design against operational requirements and the utilisation of space within urban environments.

Our designs use real data to improve recycling rates, automated vehicles to maximise internal logistics efficiencies, and drive opportunities for onsite waste treatment to maximise diversion rates.

We work with planners and local authorities to organise planning approvals for waste and materials environmental impact assessments, site waste management plans, and circular economy statements, delivery and servicing plans and waste capacity reprovision analysis.

OUR services

Circular economies strategies

Delivering a circular economy is key to reducing our demand for new materials and minimising waste disposal whilst retaining the value in materials and moving towards a zero-waste society.

As a multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy we work with the design team and our engineers to integrate circular economy principles over all building layers, construction and operational phases.

Working with developers, architects and engineers we identify solutions to reduce, reuse and recycle operational and construction waste. We ensure that there is sufficient space to manage and segregate waste, identify measures to reduce operational, construction and demolition waste and maximise the reuse or recyclability of these materials.

Waste management strategies

A circular economy, efficient space utilisation, reducing overall waste and environmental impacts are all key to developing a successful waste management strategy.

As waste management and circular economy consultants we provide feasibility studies and infrastructure assessments at the early stages of site procurement to determine the requirements for managing waste. We quantify and characterise the waste generation, review local waste policy and capacity of existing local waste infrastructure and the projects aspirations to develop of options for the storage collection and treatment of waste.

We identify potential planning requirements, innovative solutions and ensure adaptability to reflect the growing global pressures of resource scarcity and support a circular economy.

Goods logistics

Servicing and logistics is a fundamental aspect to the operation of all buildings. It requires an understanding of the goods, products and vehicles that arrive onsite, traffic flows within the building and appropriate spatial planning.

We develop waste and goods logistics management strategies to create an efficient and frictionless service network, that can simultaneously receive and distribute goods and collect waste and recycling.  We identify the specific needs of food and beverage, retail, galleries, medical and other uses within the building, and work with the design team to create a logistics network which is resilient and adaptable.

Waste and goods audits

Understanding the quantity of received goods and waste produced is vital to developing solutions to reduce waste generation, target recycling segregation and improve operations.

We work with existing facilities management teams and waste contractors to obtain existing data and provide initial waste and goods audits to reduce sources of waste and maximise recycling and recovery rates, that can ultimately reduce disposal and management costs.

We conduct waste and goods audits, advise on appropriate methods, identify the key barriers and provide real data to tailor measures to improve waste reduction and recovery.

Waste and materials – planning applications

Our specialist consultants provided strategic advice to the client on the phased upgrade of existing legacy Building Management System (BMS) and controls equipment, identifying energy and future proofing requirements and delivering scopes of works and specifications for tender.

Our interventions to upgrade the existing BMS included optimised control programming and future proofing features such as embedding semantic tagging standards and Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity to enable a diagnostic solution to be deployed.

This approach is enabling our clients to evolve against a wider strategy of estate upgrades and net zero carbon pathways.

Healthcare operations, waste and logistics

Operational waste and logistics are critical issues for healthcare, as organisations work to ensure patient safety and wellbeing, to offer efficiency of operations, and to meet sustainability and net zero targets.

Our consultants consider multiple factors to enable optimum operational efficiency within hospitals, ensuring high levels of patient safety and positive clinical outcomes, low servicing costs, peak efficiency, removal of logjams and maximising sustainability performance.
