Neil Billett is the Global Design Director at Buro Happold. He leads on the Design Crit strategy that reviews projects at key stages and drives challenge and opportunity into achieving the maximum possible business outcome for clients and enhanced experiences for building users.

He is also responsible for defining and implementing the global technology strategy to ensure that we become increasingly efficient in our processes as well as professionalising our platforms to support our ability to leverage data and insights to greater effect. Neil is a Partner and guides the practice strategically as a member of the Main Board.

He joined the Practice in 1989 and has been involved as project director in the design, construction and delivery of many prestigious buildings including offices, museums, theatres, galleries and bespoke owner occupied facilities. The projects cover a wide international spread including Asia, USA, Middle East and Europe. As project director he is responsible for co ordinating the design and technical contributions from a wide array of engineering disciplines.

Graduating in Building Engineering and Architecture Neil is a specialist in sustainability, building physics and energy. Indeed Neil initiated, and formerly lead, Buro Happold’s sustainability team which seeks to provide cutting edge input to the serious issue of responding positively to meeting and surpassing the increasingly challenging international and national targets. The team is made up of a diverse range of researchers and consultants taking on commissions that range from policy setting and “thought leadership” topics through to masterplan strategies, buildings and product design.

He is also a technical adviser to the World Green Building Council and chaired a publication technical committee.
