Bordering Saudi Arabia and Oman, the UAE is a federation of seven emirates. Abu Dhabi is the capital and second largest city in the United Arab Emirates and is at the heart of the federation accounting for 87% of the total land mass. Abu Dhabi leads the way in fostering the dialogue on political thinking, industry and culture.
In a population of some 5 million people, less than 20% are UAE nationals or Emiratis. Huge numbers of people migrate to the area and there are significant numbers of resident European expats so that the federation has become more multicultural.
