Lanchester Road Hospital
Lanchester Road Hospital, located in Durham on the former Earls House Hospital site, is a state-of-the-art new facility containing important adult mental health and learning disability services. Buro Happold, in conjunction with Bailer Garner and BAM Construction has delivered a thoughtful and sustainable design providing a safe, pleasant and therapeutic environment sympathetic to the needs of the staff and patients.

Pontefract General Infirmary
Buro Happold worked closely with the architect, the design team, Consort Healthcare and the Pinderfields and Pontefract Hospital Joint Venture (PPHJV) to ensure hospital facilities benefi ting from natural daylight, fresh air and outside views. Both hospitals have also been designed to accommodate the latest equipment and technology, and future-proofed with options for expanding departments built into the building services design. Pontefract has been fully open since 2009.

Both hospitals have also been designed to accommodate the latest equipment and technology, and future-proofed with options for expanding departments built into the building services design. Pinderfields was handed over in December 2010.

Rosario to Victoria Toll Bridge
The Rosario to Victoria Toll Bridge and associated embankment provides a direct 60km link between Rosario in the province of Santa Fe to Victoria in the province of Entre Rios in Argentina. A ferry service was in operation prior to the bridge being built but stopped once the bridge was opened.

I25/US36 Express Lanes
The I25 Express Lanes in Denver were originally built as seven miles of HOV and Rapid Bus Transit lanes between downtown Denver and the US36. In June 2006 they opened to traffic as express lanes which means that solo drivers are now also allowed to use the HOV lanes if they pay a toll. The lanes have proved very popular and there are now plans to extend the scheme along the US36 to Boulder. Although the construction of Phase I of the US36 is already underway, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDoT) and the High Performance Transportation Enterprise (HPTE) have proposed that the Phase II extension along the US36, along with Phase I and the existing I25 express lanes, should be combined into a single design, build, finance and operate concession.

GlaxoSmithKline - Five Crescent Drive
GlaxoSmithKline's new LEED Platinum Five Crescent Drive corporate facility is setting a precedent for high-performance commercial developments that meet the needs of both client and end user. A key component in Liberty Property Trust's redevelopment of the Philadelphia Navy Yard, the 208,000 ft² project received LEED Platinum certification under both the Core and Shell and Commercial Interiors programs. Integrated services provided by Buro Happold played a pivotal role in the successful design and delivery of the project which is designed to achieve minimum energy consumption and maximum maintenance efficiency while being environmentally responsible.

Dalian Diamond Bay Regeneration
Working closely with architects John Thompson and Partners, we prepared a detailed economic and spatial strategy to support a masterplan for the redevelopment of Dalian’s eastern coastal periphery. The proposed redevelopment, adjacent to the CBD of Dalian City, is substantial in scale incorporating former docks, shipyards, commercial zones, areas of natural beauty and a large petrochemical plant. The economic study involved significant data collection, analysis and interpretation of primary and secondary data sources, in order to best appraise alternative uses for the site.

Riverdale Country Schools
Energy cost at US K-12 schools represents the largest single operating expense after salaries and benefits. Developing a plan to help rein in those costs is important to a school’s bottom line and helps to ensure a more sustainable future. Buro Happold, through our G.Works collaboration, partnered with HR&A to provide a full infrastructure, energy and economic analysis for both the Hill and River campuses of Riverdale Country Schools (RCS) located in the Bronx, New York. The result is an energy action plan with strong economic analysis as a foundation for RCS’s infrastructure investments.
