Graduate Projects
- Sabah Al Ahmad Sea City
The site of the Sabah Al Ahmad Sea City development is adjacent to the Arabian Gulf coastline, 85km south of Kuwait City. From two environmentally impoverished hyper saline creeks, an ecologically rich waterway city is growing. The development of the city is expected to be delivered in up to 10 stages over the course of a 25 year period which started in 2002.
- Al Faisaliah
The massive 245,000m2 mixed-use Al Faisaliah development in Riyadh is one of the most striking buildings in the Middle East. Its landmark office tower rises 270m over the city, soaring to a tapered point in one smooth giant arc. At its pinnacle the tower narrows to a brightly lit lantern topped with a decorative stainless steel finial.
- Royal Shakespeare Theatre
Redefining historical cultural spaces requires a certain set of skills: vision, perception and a delicate touch. The redevelopment of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre included the creation of a 1,030 seat auditorium with a thrust stage, the largest of its kind in the world, transforming the relationship that the audience has with the actors. To bring a greater immediacy and clarity to the performances, the distance from the furthest seats to the stage has been reduced from 27 to 15 metres.
- Wadi Hanifah
Wadi Hanifah is a 120km long, 4500km2 watershed that passes through the capital city of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. Located in the middle of the Najd Plateau it has been labelled the most significant natural feature in the region.
- O2 Arena and Millennium Dome
The O2 Arena sits within the former Millennium Dome – one of Buro Happold’s key projects of the late 1990s as a building within a building.
- Transbay Transit Center
As a multi-modal transit hub, the Transbay Transit Center, situated in downtown San Francisco, will serve as the terminus for the future California High Speed Rail Link, providing bus, rail, and light rail systems throughout California.
- High Line Park
Inspired by the melancholic, unruly beauty of the line, Happold and Field Operations re-imagined this industrial conveyance into a postindustrial instrument of leisure, city life, and nature.
- Crystal Bridges
Elegantly placed in the rural Arkansas landscape, the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is a series of seven concrete, glass and wood pavilions set along a stream bed.
- Dresden Station
2006 proved to be a poignant year for Dresden Station as its nine year redevelopment and renovation programme reached completion.
- Copernicus Science Centre
Situated within the heart of Warsaw, along the banks of the Vistula, the Copernicus Science Centre cuts an extremely modern sight.
- Polish Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo 2010
Inspired by folklore, the Polish Pavilion has a striking façade that features a number of inclined surfaces designed to resemble folded paper.
