Safe & secure

Safety and security is of paramount importance in the built environment. There’s no point having a building if its occupants aren’t safe. Buro Happold’s Safe and Secure team work to ensure your facility has a sustainably safe environment for its users.

Establishing safety and security procedures begins at the outset of a project and should continue long after its construction lifecycle has ended. It’s an aspect of design that marries with a basic concept: buildings are for people and it’s vital that those people are safe.

Our Safe and Secure team, work internationally to bring best practice to our projects. With a holistic, fully integrated approach we work independently as safety and security consultants, or with other Buro Happold teams on larger projects. Our experts are highly experienced in local and international legislation and embrace the Happold spirit of innovation that drives our work and exceed expectations.

We also work closely with Buro Happold’s Fire Engineering, People Flow and Inclusive Design groups putting people at the heart of the built environment.

To find out more about how we can help your building’s users to be safe, contact your local office or one of our safety and security experts.

Buro Hapoold worked with architects AEDAS on this project to create a new, purpose built secondary school in the Holland Park Conservation Area. The aim was to create a building that “neither looks nor feels like a school”, the new building was designed to accommodate the 1,500 pupils and 100 staff, within a modern, flexible teaching environment, occupying a much smaller footprint than its 1950’s, campus style predecessor. Arranged over 6 levels, the school comprises a single atrium running the full length of the building to create a social hub and carry light deep into the building, with teaching wings on each side.
