Stakeholders can be groups, organisations or individuals who have a ‘stake’ in the process of urban planning and decision-making. The close involvement of these stakeholders from the outset of a project is a pre-requisite for a successful and sustainable outcome. Experience shows that the cross-pollination of ideas benefits not only our clients but also those communities who live in and use our developments.
Buro Happold maintains regular liaison with stakeholders, clients, agencies and local people to exchange views on the project proposals and agree realistic goals in relation to quality, time and cost. With our multi-disciplinary, integrated approach, we are able to synthesise the many aspects of the design into a coherent whole in order to meet the demands of sustainable and responsible development.
We understand the challenge of delivering the infrastructure and buildings as well as the complexities of the design and planning process. Empowering the stakeholders by engaging them fully in the roll-out of the project serves to create a climate of constructive participation. By listening carefully, we are able to develop strategies and action plans which address the changing needs and aspirations of end users.
Our emphasis on collaboration and communication enables us to assess the merits of alternative options and establish a methodology for an inclusive working group approach – one that brings all key stakeholders together. We hold regular consultation events to foster a better understanding of issues and priorities and attempt to reach a consensus on local solutions which affect sustainable growth and development.
The consultation process gives stakeholder groups ample opportunity to outline their ideas and concerns and argue their case. This vital commentary is then fed back into the design process. On larger projects we hold specific workshops on key areas to help us assess where to put in place appropriate infrastructure – such as roads, bridges and footpaths – that will provide social cohesion between communities.
