Audio-visual Design

Multimedia and audio-visual systems are an integral feature of most modern buildings, from offices and shops to classrooms and hospital wards. Yet these systems – vital for communication, education and information applications – are often added as an afterthought, with the consequence that installation costs can increase and efficiency can be compromised.

Buro Happold’s approach is to deliver a positive outcome by providing the design team with a clearly formulated audio visual brief from an early stage in the planning process. Our focus is on combining innovative and elegant design solutions with efficient installation and commissioning.  We also look to the future, ensuring our solutions have the flexibility to adapt to inevitable advances in technology.

Our understanding of systems integration and acoustics means we can address the entire room design, as well as helping clients select from a wide range of appropriate products and systems. Audio-visual equipment may include lighting dimmers, audio and control products, data video and slide projectors, video conferencing, visualisers, AV rail systems, interactive writing boards and media walls.

Performance venues in particular employ cutting edge audio-visual technologies for a variety of purposes, from sound enhancement and sound effects systems to 3D projection and electronic information terminals. Our bespoke loudspeaker and video designs utilise the latest technology to provide top quality sound and maximum visual impact, tried and tested in a range of acoustic environments including concert halls, opera houses, theatres, cinemas and recording studios.

Buro Happold's technology integration team is at the forefront of audio-visual, acoustics, building integration, IT and security consultancy. Our multi-disciplinary approach enables us to add value by augmenting other key skills during the various phases of design and development. With the focus now on flexible, integrated services, we provide the vital connectivity and support for today’s knowledge-based workplace.
