Buro Happold has vast experience in delivering operational road solutions in both the private and public sectors. We have completed many prestige projects in the UK and around the world, providing vital road access on regeneration schemes and new building developments. At the same time we enjoy a well-established reputation for public highway improvement and development work, which we carry out for partners such as Dorset County Council.
Drawing on the multi-disciplinary skills within our Infrastructure group, we cover all aspects of road construction, including highway alignment, pedestrian and road bridges, viaducts, tunnels, culverts, pavements, signage, lighting and drainage. In addition to providing efficient access, our designs aim to reduce traffic congestion and minimise environmental impact.
Roads provide the vital access key to unlocking the potential – and the value – in a development. They join it to the outside world, connect its buildings and public spaces and provide the links to local transport interchanges. Roads enable people to interact and help to create community ‘wholeness’. To make roads safer for the travelling public we employ comprehensive safety auditing and remedial engineering measures.
Buro Happold’s familiarity with a wide variety of design challenges – for example, the integration of new roads into the existing network, traffic management and utility diversions – allows us to bring a multi-skilled approach to all road building projects. Our extensive work for local authorities and experience of liaising with public bodies such as the Highways Agency gives us a unique insight into planning requirements for road schemes under the Highways Act, the Town and Country Planning Act and the New Roads and Highways Act.
