Buro Happold played a key role in the referbishment of the MacRobert Arts Centre,  situated on the University of Stirling Campus. The project included a major upgrade of the 400-seat auditorium and main restaurant. In addition, we undertook the development of a new children's theatre, a state-of-the-art cinema and bar and foyer spaces.

There were also numerous engineering challenges, including the creation of new substructure within the proximity of the existing building foundations. The environmental design was based on a low energy strategy that provides comfortable indoor climate solutions with reduced energy costs.

A new building management system was designed and fully integrated within the campus network. State-of-the-art audio visual systems were incorporated into the cinema, including Dolby surround sound systems, high definition film and video projection and a multi-scene lighting control system. Displacement ventilation solutions for the cinema were integrated using grilles within the seat design.
