Holloway Circus Residential Tower

The spectacular 40-storey Holloway Circus tower is the UK’s tallest residential scheme. Comprising a 21-storey tower block with 150 apartments, complete with swimming pool and health club, above a 19-storey Radisson SAS hotel, this landmark mixed-use development provides a stylish and instantly recognisable addition to the Birmingham city centre skyline. The state-of-the-art tower makes a significant contribution to the city’s redevelopment initiative and shows how modern and sustainable high-rise living can be achieved.

Buro Happold provided building services engineering for this prestigious project, putting a strong emphasis on environmental performance and occupant comfort. Our specialist CoSA Solutions group carried out advanced computer simulations of the fabric and interior systems, analysing factors such as thermal performance, energy consumption and airflow. Environmental design features include an innovative double facade which helps to reduce heat loss and maximise the potential for passive solar gain. Post-tensioned concrete floor slabs provide thermal mass for natural heating and cooling systems.
