City Academy Bristol

Buro Happold provided multi-disciplinary engineering services for the development of City Academy Bristol as part of the Department of Education and Skills (DfES) framework. After demolishing the existing school, we were commissioned to construct the new school building. The site covers an area of 12,957m² and provides education for 1,265 students in the secondary school age bracket. A multi-use sports hall, incorporating a 40x60yd covered football pitch complete with a long-span roof, is provided as a part of the DfES scheme.

There were numerous different requirements, from classrooms, laboratories and a canteen to the provision of outside areas, for our engineers to develop. The resulting school is a building designed around individual faculties, with students studying the same specialisms located in the same 'zone' or 'village'.
