Kings Waterfront is an exciting centrepiece for Liverpool's celebrations as the 2008 Capital of Culture.
The development provides a 10,000 seat arena, while the convention centre adds a 1,350 seat auditorium, multi-purpose hall and exhibtion space. With the ability to accommodate events from concerts to ice shows and sporting events, the covention centre has been designed to be extremely flexible.
The form of the arena and seating bowl are presented as a horseshoe, configured around the footprint of the 30mx60m ice floor. Its open end allows good access at arena floor level through to the hall, allowing for shared exhibitions between the two spaces.
Principal spaces are located on the upper level, with the auditorium at the centre of the building plan and sitting partly over the hall, which is situated at the lower level of the conference centre.
Between the arena and conference centre lies the Galleria, forming a hinge by which the two main buildings are ordered. This area is intended to be the heart of the scheme, and is positioned at the centre of the site.
