Paul Rogers
BSc(Hons) CEng MIStructE
Born 1965. Paul joined Buro Happold fresh from University College Cardiff in 1986, and has worked in most of the Buro Happold offices, before settling in Berlin as Group Director of the German and Polish offices. Elevated to the position of principal in 2000, Paul's calm assurance and quiet dedication have been instrumental in ensuring the success of the European offices. A chartered structural engineer, Paul spent three years in the Bath office working on a variety of projects before transferring to the Middle East for a three year tour of duty.
His responsibilities here ranged from reinforced concrete design to managing the co-ordination of all construction disciplines for a major development in Riyadh City Centre. Returning to the UK, Paul worked in the fledgling Glasgow office and spent some time in Leeds before moving to Germany in 1994, initially to Düsseldorf and later to Berlin, to establish and manage the German office. The Polish office was opened in 1997 and Paul has spent considerable time and energy in nurturing this new venture.
One of Paul's key skills is his grasp of cross-discipline issues. His understanding of the varied and often conflicting influences on the construction process has enabled him to arrive at practical solutions to design and building problems - whether in a commercially driven shopping centre project or a decorative canopy for a new theatre. Paul also has a balanced view of the realities of the construction business, having been involved in the struggle to start-up two new overseas offices with all the economic and cultural pressures that that entails. His personal commitment to the success of both offices, his dedication to securing new work and his sheer physical hard work in maintaining small offices within new markets is laudable.
