Padraic Kelly

Born 1954. Studied Engineering Science at Trinity College Dublin, followed by a Masters Degree in Computers in Engineering Structures. Joined Buro Happold in 1978, becoming a director in 1992 and Managing Director in 1996. He held this key role until 2005 after which he became the practice's International Director. Padraic established the Buro Happold office in Saudi Arabia in 1989, and was resident director responsible for the Middle East and Asia until 1996. He is a Chartered Engineer, Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers, and Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers. He is also a member of Bath's Economic Forum contributing to economic regeneration in this part of the South West of England. Padraic took over as President of Europe Engineers on 19th May 2006.

As full of enthusiasm at eight in the evening as he is at eight in the morning, Padraic Kelly is a man of ideas who cannot fail to inspire those around him. He is Buro Happold's driving force for change. There is a strong international dimension to his work. His magnetism is a blend of good cheer, earnestness and rapid-fire ideas, yet in his practice he is known as the one who brings order and strategy to the creative process and the people, that together are engineering. Padraic knows that good leaders and ever evolving processes produce great designs and happy people. He believes that the fearless sharing of knowledge unlocks the potential within a firm, transforming it from a mass of individuals into a living organism.
