Mick Green

Born 1950. Mick studied civil and structural engineering at Liverpool University and joined Buro Happold in 1977, becoming a Principal in 1994, with responsibility for Fire Safety Engineering and Research Development and Innovation. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and a Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers.
He has been involved in specialist research projects with DETR and DTI and chairs the Institution of Structural Engineers Task Group on Fire Safety Engineering. He is a Member of CRISP Panel on the health of construction research. He is the industrial research adviser on strategy at Sheffield University and is responsible for dissemination of research at the Building Research Establishment Cardington Fire testing project investigating steel and concrete frame buildings. Mick Green grasps the entire building process. He has a scientific knack for spotting market fluctuations, as well as for exposing the threads that connect seemingly disparate disciplines. He initiated FEDRA, Buro Happold's Fire Engineering Design Risk Assessment group.
Mick is the leading force behind the practice's strong commitment to research and development. With a keen interest in technology, he is an industry innovator in the use of computer modelling to predict human responses to fire emergencies. He has revolutionised codes of practice concerning means of escape from emergency situations.
