Jerry Young
BSc(Hons) CEng MIStructE MAPM MSc
Born 1954. After initially working in a structural engineering consultancy Jerry studied at the University of Bath obtaining a first class honours degree in building engineering. After working within the construction industry for a number of years he returned to the University of Bath and obtained a MSc in Construction Management. He is also a Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers and a Member of the Association of Project Managers.
Jerry began his career with Buro Happold in 1982 in our Bath office, and in 1984 he moved to the Middle East where he managed the Kuwait office and for four years acted as resident engineer which he did with great skill. After returning to the UK and pursuing a variety of other interests and projects Jerry rejoined Buro Happold in 1996 heading up the Middle East office. After successfully managing this huge task Jerry came back to the UK as Group Director of the Management and Cost Engineering Group, overseeing both the London and Bath Bath groups. He became a principal of the firm in 2000.
Jerry has had an interesting and varied career and it is his extensive knowledge of management has played a major part in bringing him to the UK to oversee our Project Management and Cost Engineering Groups. His business acumen, energy and confidence enable him to develop successful relationships with key clients, customers, contractors and peers alike. His wealth of varied experience across both management and other technical disciplines are invaluable in ensuring the project specifications are met. His familiarity with leading large groups crosses all cultural barriers and a client is always keen to have Jerry oversee the procedures, confident in his ability to do the job and do it well.
