Specialist Consulting Group

Stuart Martin, a chartered building surveyor with 23 years experience in the construction industry, joined Buro Happold’s Manchester office in 1998. In addition to his role of developing our fire engineering design and risk assessment (FEDRA) team, he also supports the development of Manchester’s integrated building group (IBG). His knowledge of building design, construction techniques, materials, building services, and structure, and his training in fire safety design ensure that cohesive, practical, cost effective designs are developed and implemented.

Stuart has worked on a number of high profile projects, including the Onassis House of Letters and Arts project in Manchester, to design a 1000-seat theatre and associated technical areas, a 249-seat cinema, auditorium and conference hall, an exhibition hall, below ground car parking, private and public libraries and a restaurant. He also worked on the National Museum of Liverpool project to build a three-storey museum located on the River Mersey.

A fire safety strategy needs to be incorporated on every building project in order to ensure the safety of occupants and property, obtain regulatory approvals and protect business continuity. Buro Happold’s FEDRA group delivers creative design solutions that help to bring the architectural vision to life and which are practical and realistic to manage once the building is occupied.
