Ian Maddocks has an enviable history with Buro Happold – he trained as an architect at Bath University under Ted Happold, followed by 16 years within the practice working on a diverse range of projects, particularly in the fields of special structures and facades.

As Group Director for façade engineering in the London office Ian uses his architectural background to improve communication across the design team and aid the architects or designers visualise the impact of the structural scheme.

Ian is also a board member of Buro Happold’s Specialist Consulting group, which provides a wide range of technical and analytical services to support the specific requirements of architects and clients.

Projects Ian has been involved in include the Torre Iberdrola in Bilbao, the Living Wall in Amman, Jordan and Dresden main station, Germany.

The facade engineering team advises clients on the best way to develop, design and procure the building envelope, using their knowledge of the full supply chain to provide high level technical advice across the whole design process, including the choice of materials and systems. Our aim is to achieve a cost-effective, viable design solution that provides top performance at the lowest possible risk.
