Engineering consultancy lends it support to tackling climate change

International multidisciplinary engineering consultancy Buro Happold is one of over 700 companies that have given their support to The Copenhagen Communiqué on Climate Change which has been hailed as the definitive progressive statement of the international business community.

Buro Happold’s Chairman Rod MacDonald added his supportive testimonial to those from companies such as the National Australian Bank Ltd, Virgin Group, Thames Water and Kodak Ltd.

MacDonald said “Tangible progress is being made within the engineering community to develop the affordable solutions required to reduce emissions from the world’s developed and developing cities.

As engineers and consultants working in the built environment, we believe that everyone within the industry, without exception, has a responsibility to strive for demonstrably sustainable development. However, unless global leaders create a long lasting sense of urgency to implement these measures on a wide scale, it will all be simply too late.

The consequences of further climate change do not bear thinking about. Therefore Buro Happold wholeheartedly supports the Copenhagen Communiqué and is looking for some bold commitments to be made and enforced at Copenhagen.”

The communiqué comes ahead of the United Nations (UN) climate change conference in Copenhagen this December.
