Happold LLP appoints 18 new partners

18 new members are joining the Happold LLP today, 1st May 2008

Buro Happold has built a strong, worldwide reputation in the industry for delivering innovative, leading edge consultancy and engineering design projects that respect the environment by touching the earth lightly.  The consultancy is known for its thought leadership in the industry globally.

Early in the life of Buro Happold the Founding Partners decided that the Partnership should be passed from generation to generation selecting new partners on the basis of merit. It was also their wish that it would be a place of opportunity for new generations of partners, rather than developing it into an attractive acquisition target for the sole benefit of a few. The current partners respect and continue this philosophy.  As the consultancy has grown and as partners have retired new partners have joined the Partnership. Last year the Partnership was changed to become a limited liability partnership and today the membership of the Partnership has grown to 44.

The new partners are Alan Travers, Andrew Best, Andy Keelin, Andy Murdoch, Andy Parker, Edith Blennerhassett, Greg Otto, Ian Maddocks, Jim Cook, Mark Phillip, Martin Duffy, Mike Cooper, Pam Penkman, Patrick Smallbone, Richard Marshall, Stephen Jolly, Steve Williamson, and Wolf Mangelsdorf.

They merit their selection by bringing their different talents in such diverse fields as coastal and river engineering, façade engineering, asset management, management consultancy and ground engineering as well as our mainstream skills of building services (MEP), infrastructure and structural engineering. Some of them lead our work in our offices in Los Angeles, Dublin, Dubai, Manchester and India. Each of them brings leadership in skills, in business and of people.

Many of the new partners have worked for Buro Happold for several years, in some cases the majority of their career. This demonstrates the firm’s commitment to develop its people, help them to reach their full potential and reward them well for their efforts.

“I am delighted to welcome these 18 new partners to Happold LLP. They are selected from the very best in Buro Happold and have been appointed because of their successful contribution to the growing strength of our business in recent years”, says Rod Macdonald, chairman of Happold LLP.

On the 30th April 2008, Ian Leaper, who became a partner in 2004 stepped down from the Partnership to pursue his own business interests although he will continue as a consultant to Buro Happold. Ian was instrumental in establishing the Manchester office 10 years ago, during which time the office has carried out many successful multi-disciplinary projects such as offices in Princess St, Beetham Tower, and the design proposals for the Mersey tidal barrage.
