Boost to Buro Happold’s Belfast office

Appointment of Simon Curtis shows commitment to structural engineering in Northern Ireland

International multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy Buro Happold has appointed new Associate Director Simon Curtis to its Structures team in Belfast.

With over twenty-one years’ experience working with innovative building structures, many of which have won awards, Simon is a welcome addition to the team. His work includes the Birmingham International Convention Centre, Astana Hospital in Kazakhstan, major campus redevelopments at a number of UK Universities, and the recently-completed Hadley Learning Community in Telford which has been hailed as “the school of the future”.

“I am looking forward to the challenges of a variety of exciting projects with Buro Happold,” said Simon. “Much of my experience has been in the West Midlands, so I am particularly looking forward to the opportunity of working in Northern Ireland.”

Building up the structures team

His addition to the team also shows Buro Happold’s commitment to providing a multi-disciplinary office in the region, as he will be involved in building up the structures team. The Belfast team is currently contributing to the design of the new library at Queens University and Craigavon Hospital Mental Health Unit.

“We are delighted that Simon has joined us,” said Matthew Smith, structural engineering director for Buro Happold. “Simon brings a wealth of experience with him. We have an increasing number of projects in Northern Ireland with a diverse range of clients. This provides a great foundation for him to build on.”
