Buro Happold is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Yates to head the Information Technology and Communications team within its Specialist Consulting group.
The team develops and implements IT and communication projects for clients in the real estate development and construction industries – keeping abreast of advances in technology for lower costs, better environments and more flexibility.
Chris has held a number of senior roles during an extensive career in the IT industry. Most recently he founded and ran Newburn Consulting, a specialist IT management consultancy. Before that he was Head of Network Services for National Power, where he was responsible for delivering a complete IT infrastructure in record time as the company was privatized.
Chris is looking forward to the new challenges his role at multi-disciplinary consulting engineer Buro Happold is set to bring. He said: “The world’s dependence on IT shows little sign of diminishing. I look forward to being part of the team at Buro Happold and working with clients to help deliver appropriate levels of IT and communication technology to the built environment.”
While at National Power, Chris also helped achieve ISO9000 accreditations for the delivery of all services across the network - the largest quality management accreditation in telecommunications at the time. National Power was also acknowledged to have delivered the world’s largest ‘fibre-to-the-desk’ infrastructure.
Prior to that, Chris worked for BT. He was Personal Assistant to the Chairman throughout the period of BT’s privatisation and went on to be responsible for the development and exploitation of BT’s unique ‘blown fibre’ building cabling technology.
Chris frequently presents at conferences on how to empower business through IT, make buildings IT ‘future-proof’, and design and manage IT infrastructures. He is experienced in the international standards arena and was the founder secretary of the Users’ Advisory Council of the Network Management Forum – now the TeleManagement Forum.
