Buro Happold Opens in Edinburgh
Buro Happold, a leading multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy, is expanding its operation in Scotland with the opening of a new office on Morrison Street in Edinburgh, on the 1 May 2006 - exactly 30 years to the day since the practice established its first office in Bath.
The new office, which will be the base for up to 15 multi-disciplinary engineers within the first year, will be headed up by Matthew Smith. In the seven years since Matthew has worked for Buro Happold he has been involved in a wide variety of structural engineering projects including bridges, long span and high rise building structures, theatres and public buildings.
Buro Happold is already responsible for the engineering of an impressive array of projects in the area including the University of Edinburgh Potterrow Development, Edinburgh’s Telford College, Greenside Place Bridge, Queen Margaret University College and the Royal Botanical Gardens Gateway building.
Matthew Smith, Group Director, comments: “This is an exciting opportunity for us to further develop our existing relationships in Edinburgh and form new ones. Because of our increasing number of high quality projects in Edinburgh, we have for a while recognised the potential benefits of moving closer to our clients on the east coast. This also presents a fantastic opportunity to attract talented new staff into the organisation.”
Buro Happold established an office in Glasgow in 1996 where over 80 staff are currently employed, serving Scotland, Northern Ireland and Northern Europe.
