BEX 2006 Awards Winners

The winners of the BEX 2006 awards were announced at a gala dinner on the 8th June at the Intercontinental hotel in Madrid. The evening was one of a number of special events that comprised this years Building Exchange Summit which brought together senior executives from across the entire spectrum of the construction and property supply chain. Reflecting some of the central themes of the overall event the awards were focused on achievement in regeneration, innovation and collaboration.
Present at the awards were leaders from the property and construction Industry in over 20 countries and four continents. The awards ceremony was presented by the well known Spanish broadcaster and journalist Francine Galvez.

The winners and Runners up were:

1. Sustainable Regeneration:
Winner:BDSP Partnership for the National Assembly for Wales Runner Up:Gensler and associates for the Herman Miller Methuen Park in Chippenham England.

2. Innovative Regeneration:
Winner: m2r-architecture for the Ski Jump at the Vogtland Arena in Klingenthal Germany. Runner Up: BDSP Partnership for the National Assembly for Wales

3. Best Client Commitment to A Regeneration Scheme:
Winner: The Birmingham Alliance for the Bullring entered by Benoy. 4. Best Regeneration Collaboration
Winner: Palacio de los Serrano in Arvila, Spain entered by Gerens Runner Up: The Birmingham Alliance for the Bullring entered by Benoy

5. Best Design, Manufacture or use of Technology in a Regeneration Scheme
Winner: m2r-architecture for the Ski Jump at the Vogtland Arena in Klingenthal Germany. Runner Up: Solarlux for the Boston Project in Amsterdam the Netherlands

6. Best use of Architectural or Structural Design in a Regeneration Scheme
Winner: HOK SVE for the OCS stand at the Brit Oval in London, England. Runner Up: Foster and Partners for the Milau Viaduct at Gorges du Tam in France

7. Best Master Planning for a Regeneration Scheme:
Winner: The Building Design Partnership for the New Retail Quarter in Sheffield Runner up: Southwark Council for the Elephant and Castle in London, England

8. The Anthony Hunt Award for the most Promising Engineer
Winner: Damian Rogan for the design of the new research station in Antartica entered by Buro Happold. Highly Commended: Ignacio Calvo Herrera for the first Carbon fibre bridge in Spain entered by Acciona Infraestructuras James Warne for the Roche Headquarters in Shire Park Welwyn Garden City in the UK entered by the Building Design Partnership

9. Best Overall Regeneration Project as voted for by delegates attending BEX 2006.
Winner: Inicias for Chess City on the boundary between Dubai and Abu Dhabi

The judges of the BEX 2006 awards were Geraint John of RIBA, Giancarlo Ius President of the UIA, Geoff Wright the Construction Director of Hammerson, Anthony Hunt of Hunt Projects and SKM Anthony Hunt, Bob White, CEO of Constructing Excellence, Elaine Mellish of Mellish Consulting and Constructing Excellence and Michael Ankers, CEO of the Construction Products Association.
The final category of Best Overall Regeneration Project was voted on by the Delegates attending BEX 2006 where all the short listed projects were on display.
