Sheffield Winter Garden wins Civic Trust Award

Sheffield’s latest landmark building, the Sheffield Winter Garden, was awarded a Civic Trust Award at a ceremony in Bristol on Wednesday 24th March.

The award winning design team includes architects Pringle Richards Sharratt, consulting engineers Buro Happold and contractor, Interserve Building.

The awards are given to projects that reach the highest standards in terms of both their design and their contribution to their environment or community.

This project has also won several other awards including those made by  the Concrete Society and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE Award).

The Galleries and Winter Gardens make up part of Sheffield City Council’s Heart of the City Project: the redevelopment scheme is a masterplan for the whole city centre and covers 2.5 hectares in area.
Simon Wainwright, Group Director at Buro Happold is delighted with the award: “The Winter Garden is a great example of what can be achieved when a like-minded design team focuses on achieving the aspirations of the client. We are extremely proud of the project which was completed both on time and to budget.”Civic Trust Awards are given to outstanding examples of architecture and environmental design and are unique in that they take into account the benefit each project brings to its local area as well as considering the quality of its design.
The Special Award for Culture and Regeneration was awarded to Kingston Communications Stadium and Sports Complex, Hull.
