Greenside Place Bridge

Greenside Place Bridge design gains Saltire commendation

Buro Happold’s bridge engineering department has been recognised with a commendation in the design category of the Saltire Society’s Civil Engineering Award for their work on the Greenside Place Bridge Link, Edinburgh.

In presenting the award, the judges recognised “the excellence of the design and detailing of this landmark structure”.

The bridge, which was designed in conjunction with architects Broadway Malyan, is formed from interlocking helices of curved steel tube and is located at a high profile location in the centre of the city.  This inventive structural concept was developed in response to a challenging architectural brief and difficult site conditions.

Davood Liaghat, group manager of the bridge engineering group commented, “We are delighted that the design of the Greenside Place Bridge has received this recognition.  Not only has the design created an important link but it is seen as an urban sculpture with scenic views across Edinburgh and the Calton Hills”.
