Buro Happold complete new signage for BT Tower

Buro Happold Façades Group has recently completed work on the striking new signage for the BT Tower in London’s West End. Buro Happold was appointed by BT Telereal to create a new signage design to compliment the current BT corporate identity. Revealed recently, the sign adapted the existing steel framework to create a continuous signage box, measuring 5m high with a perimeter length of 60m, at level 36 of the landmark tower. A flexface skin, incorporating the current BT logo, stretches over the framework, which is lit externally from below.

The new sign is the third since the tower was built in the early 1960’s. Buro Happold sought inspiration for the new design by investigating the structural history of the sign, and tracked down historic documents and photographs for reference, which resulted in a comprehensive audit trail of the sign’s evolution.
