Buro Happold Trainee Engineer is Young Lighter of the Year

CIBSE (Society of Light and Lighting) has awarded the Young Lighter of the Year Award 2004 to Kenneth Winters, a trainee engineer at Buro Happold, for his paper on lighting design in galleries.

The well-researched paper covered the design of artificial lighting, daylighting, daylighting controls and the prevention and decay of lighting in galleries, drawing on Kenneth’s experience in being part of the design team on Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin.

Kenneth, based in Buro Happold’s Dublin office, is the first student from Ireland to be short listed for this award, which was presented on the 6th April in London.   A graduate of DIT’s Certificate/Diploma in Electrical Services Engineering , Ken was the winner the Lighting Design Award at the Inaugural DIT/ Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) Student Award Ceremony last October.

Edith Blennerhassett, director, comments “Kenneth has worked very hard and this is a great achievement for him.  It’s good to see students considering the wider design issues like daylighting and not just the artificial lighting design.”
