Young Engineers Symposium
“Maintaining the Structures Gene Pool” is the intriguing title of the second Young Engineers Symposium to be held at Queen’s College, Cambridge over the weekend of Sat 13th and Sun 14th December. An impressive array of structural engineers from have been invited to speak, including the engineers responsible for the design of the Gateshead Millennium Bridge and San Francisco’s Oakland Bay Bridge. The event is being promoted by IABSE (International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering) and the Cambridge University Engineering Society (CUES).
Ian Liddell, founding partner of Buro Happold, and a visiting professor at Cambridge University, says “It’s a great event for young engineers who are interested in hearing about real engineering challenges, and to share their enthusiasm with other like-minded engineers.”
All undergraduates and recent graduates in structural engineering are invited to attend, with an application form available from the website at www-g.eng.cam.ac.uk/IABSE
Background information for editors:
1. The "International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering" (IABSE) is a non-profit scientific society established in 1929 to promote the international exchange of knowledge in the field of structural engineering. It has 4,200 members in 100 countries, all over the world. Its secretariat is in Zurich, Switzerland.
2. CUES (Cambridge University Engineering Society) was founded in 1901 and is today the largest academic society in Cambridge with over 1000 members, open to anyone with an interest in engineering issues.
3. Buro Happold is a multi-disciplinary international practice of consulting engineers established in 1976 offering civil and structural engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, quantity surveying, building services and environmental engineering, health and safety management, infrastructure and traffic engineering, ground engineering, façade engineering, fire engineering, computational fluid dynamics analysis, disability design consultancy, project management, urban design and a range of specialist CAD services.
