Michael Dickson re-elected Chairman of Buro Happold

Michael Dickson BA, MS, CEng, FREng, FIStructE, FRSA, HonFRIBA has been re-elected chairman of consulting engineer Buro Happold, in a unanimous vote by the full cohort of Buro Happold partners.

Dickson was first elected to the chair of the innovative practice of international constructing engineers in 1996, following the untimely death of founding senior partner, Professor Sir Ted Happold. Since then, the practice has more than trebled in size, and currently employs over 800 staff in offices located across the UK and around the world. Dickson continues to guide the direction of the practice working closely with managing partner, Padraic Kelly BA, BAI, MSc, MICE, MIStructE. The partnership itself, responsible for land mark projects the world over, has increased from six in 1996, to 25 equity partners in 2002, with one senior partner retiring in 1999.

In the past six years, Buro Happold has contributed to some of the world’s most distinguished headline commanding building projects, including the Millennium Dome, Greenwich; BA Waterside, Heathrow; The Queen Elizabeth 11 Great Court at the British Museum; The Glasgow Science Centre Tower; and Wessex Water Operations Centre, Bath.

It is the practice of the partnership to elect leaders for a defined term of office. Michael Dickson will now continue in his role as Chairman of Buro Happold for a further three years. He will at the same time continue as Chairman of the Construction Industry Council until June 2002, and as visiting Professor to the School of Architecture and Engineering at the University of Bath.
