Buro Happold FEDRA facilitates huge cost savings for Emirates Trading Agency
The Dubai-based Emirates Trading Agency called upon FEDRA’s expert fire performance knowledge when a client in India tasked them to install high specification fire rated ductwork.
Full fire protection ductwork systems have to be imported into India with huge import duty and the Emirates Trading Agency faced huge cost implications if they were to import the standard specification ductwork from abroad.
To ensure that the ductwork installed was fire rated to the correct specification, but costs were kept to a minimum FEDRA advised the client to import just the fire resistant paint rather than a fully fire rated system. FEDRA advised that the duct should be manufactured to a standard specification in India and then treated with the fire resistant paint.
FEDRA designed the duct, which was tested at the Building Research Establishment to BS 476 Part 24. The paint was imported to India at less than half the cost of importing the ducts, and the ductwork was coated in the paint ensuring that the client’s ductwork met the required specification.
