Buro Happold Introduces Dedicated Simulation Analysis Consultancy

Multi-disciplinary practice Buro Happold has created a new consultancy - Computational Simulation and Analysis (CoSA) – to add to its existing portfolio of services.

CoSA provides a building simulation service with a working interoperability focus.  CoSA develops models, which, individually, can be used for many different types of analyses whilst applying appropriate levels of detail, ensuring that accurate results within realistic costs and timescales are achieved.  Added to that, CoSA's practical experience ensures a flexible and responsive approach to design team needs, while retaining the integrity of analyses by combining an academic background with hands-on engineering design experience.  Application of CoSA services at the right time add considerable value to a project.

CoSA's key services include:
Environmental Computional Fluid Dynamics (CFD) – CoSA uses CFD extensively where detailed understanding of flow regimes are required in the analysis of mechanical systems, natural ventilation, atria and complex environments such as clean rooms, laboratories and computer rooms.
Computational environmental wind engineering – a detailed analysis, using CFD, which will provide engineers with the opportunity to quickly analyse the wind flow around a building to enable optimum sitings for doors and smoke and air vents.

Fire and smoke computational fluid dynamics – CFD modelling exhibiting a wide variety of architectural forms and materials enables effective design and approvals of the optimum fire strategy for different types of buildings.

M&E system simulation – a powerful design tool which looks at a buildings' environmental, energy and comfort performance.  Use of the system enables engineers to assess the performance of various mechanical strategies i.e. fan coils and chilled ceilings.

Garry Palmer, Group Manager CoSA explains:  “CoSA offers a one-stop building simulation service. Our analysis specialists have a wide experience base, including mechanical and electrical engineering, architecture, aeronautics, electronics and physics.  We work closely with mechanical, electrical, fire and structural teams to develop the appropriate analysis strategy for the project.”
