Buro Happold has been working across the United States for the past 20 years. A long association with the architectural firm Future Tents Inc led to the formation in 1992 of FTL-Happold to produce designs for lightweight fabric structures. In the late 1990s increasing demand to provide structural and MEP solutions for a wider range of building types and design challenges resulted in the establishment of Buro Happold in New York.
Our reputation for excellent, creative engineering has resulted in the rapid expansion of the New York office. To accommodate our growing multi-disciplinary team, which currently stands at over 100, we recently moved to a much larger premises at 100 Broadway. This impressive new office, situated near Wall Street in the city’s famous financial district, has been declared a landmark building by the City of New York.
While still small enough to provide personal and flexible services for our clients, our excellent communications with Buro Happold offices worldwide enable us to draw upon the total technical support of our staff globally to serve the needs of major international construction projects. In this way our core services of structural engineering, mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering, and long span and lightweight structures can be augmented to provide specialist consultancy in fire engineering, access (ADA) consultancy, façade consultancy and information technology & communications.
Our projects in the United States reflect our ability to meet the challenges of innovative contemporary architecture, moderated by issues of practicality and economics. We are active in a broad range of sectors including public facilities, commercial and retail, education and medical, and transport and urban development.
Our ability to offer integrated design solutions, with a particular expertise in the construction of ‘green’ buildings which are as energy efficient and environmentally friendly as possible, differentiates Buro Happold from most other US based engineering consultancies. As a result we have been involved in construction schemes throughout the United States and are increasingly working with US based architects on major international projects.
