Educational Bursaries
The Happold Trust also makes a range of bursaries available for specific purposes and sponsors certain courses, enabling the educational establishment concerned to offer them on the curriculum. The Trust has contributed to:

  • Cambridge University’s Inter-disciplinary Course for the Built Environment (IDBE), which brings together young, professional surveyors, architects, engineers and builders to prepare them for being future industry leaders resulting from an increased understanding of collaborative, multi-disciplinary working practices.
  • Sixth form A1 (A Level) CDT students are sponsored through the Arkwright/Smallpiece foundations to encourage entrance into engineering professions.
  • The University of Bath Travel Bursary is given to final year engineering students. This award is made in memory of Ted Happold’s 20 years as Professor of Building Engineering at the University.
  • The Happold Trust and Worshipful Company of Constructors Scholarship has been awarded annually since 2003. It is given to a young graduate enabling them to undertake a year’s study or study travel project in an agreed field. Initial projects focus on sustainable environmental engineering.
  • The Happold Trust also makes a financial contribution to universities to encourage the teaching of creativity in design – beneficiaries to date include Cambridge, Leeds and Bath Universities.
